Psychographic and demographics

Target audience

Taylor Swift is a quite a popular country pop artist, she is more popular with the younger generation. This is because she is more promoted on channels such as 'Disney Channel'. One of her songs was on the soundtrack for the Hannah Montana Movie, showing that her music is aimed at younger girls. I think the target audience for Taylor Swift would be teenage girls an age range of ages between 13 and 19. As Taylor Swift is a young artist herself. People who listen to Taylor Swift would wear quite casual clothing and be very 'Girly'.

To get further feedback on my target audience, I am going to carry out video's of five people to get a range of ideas of my fan base. I will aim these at girls between the ages of 13-19, girls who I think will like her genre of music. I will ask various questions to what they think of my music video idea and if it promotes my chosen artist and to see if they think my idea is similar to videos Taylor Swift has already done.

Researching similar music videos

0I have now completed research into music videos and have found music videos that I think have similarities to what I would like mine to be like. These videos show couples break ups, which I would like my video to show aspects of. Some videos I have found are already by my chosen artist, but other videos show similar pop or country pop artists music videos.

Treatment for my music video

Artist Name- Taylor Swift
Album- Fearless
Song Title- The Way I Loved You
Directors Name- Stephanie Smith
Record Label- Big Machine

Overview
For my music video I have a variety of different ideas I feel I could use to create a good music video. These ideas will be using Goodwin's method of illustration as the song I have chosen has lyrics that create a narrative and I could use this within my video. I will also use some aspects of performance to promote my chosen artist, this will also involve lip syncing. The editing will be slow when the music is slow and the pace will build once the music does.

Style
As the genre of my chosen song is 'Country Pop' in my video I will try to create a look for my characters in the music video to represent this genre. Both characters boy and girl would be dressed casually, with them both wearing clothes classed as 'fashionable' and to show they would listen to the music genre of 'Country Pop'. Depending on the season, I would have to dress my characters appropriatly for the weather, for example the girl in a dress in summer and the boy wearing shorts and t-shirt, showing them in casual clothing.

When the artist is performing this will be set in an outside scene and would have to be bright lighting, to show this as her thinking about happy memories with her boyfriend, however when I will show arguing scenes I will have these in black and white and darker lighting to show them as bad memories, so contrasting good and bad times through colours.

The camera work throughout my video will be a range of different shots, from establishing shots at the beginning of the video and a various number of close-up shots within the video. The establishing shot will show the beginning of the story (narrative) and will also finish with the same shot to show the end of the story. I will use many different camera movements, for example showing the characters walking and tracking as they do so. The style of editing I will use will be quite slow to begin with before the songs pace builds up, then in the chorus the editing will become more fast and frequent as the music is faster. The editing will also be quite smooth throughout as it is shown as a 'love story'.

Concept
My music video will be representing Goodwin's classification of Illustration, as I feel the lyrics in my chosen song has a story line throughout and I could construct a good narrative based video. However, I will also have a few aspects of performance which will show my artist (main character) as lip syncing to the lyrics while also being apart of the story.

For my video I will have different scenes for each verse and the same scene for the chorus to match the lyrics. I am going to relate my video a lot to the lyrics as it is a clear story. For the first verse I will show my artist with aspects of performance and her being apart of the story, to show the lyrics I will have her walking with her boyfriend and her friends through their local park. This scene will have bright lighting as it will be set outside and will include various of camera angles and movement such as tracking.

The next scene will be of the boyfriend picking the girl up in his car (the artist) when the lyric 'you look beautiful tonight' the boy will say it to her. The next scene will be the chorus where it will be filmed in black and white to show it as a bad memory of them arguing and this will be repeated when the chorus repeated. When the lyric 'its a roller coaster kinda rush' is sung I will have a photo of the couple standing infront of a roller coaster showing as a good memory. The picture will be glowing to represent this.

The next verse will be showing the artist sitting in her room looking through photographs of them two together and then when the lyric 'he calls exactly when he says he will' her phone will ring and she will be dancing around her room while on the phone to him. The lyrics 'he's closer to my mother talks business with my father' will show a scene of a family dinner.

For the two final verses with the lyrics 'he cant see the smile I'm faking and my hearts not breaking' will show a scene of the girl back in her room but tearing up photographs of them. This will be in black and white as it is a bad memory. After this the chorus scene will repeat and the end verse, the lyrics will be written on a piece of paper by the artist showing the lyric 'thats the way I loved you' this will also be edited by glowing.

Summary

Overall, I will try to make my music video similar to the type of videos Taylor Swift already has to show the genre 'Country Pop'. I will have a range of different camera angles and movement through out my video and the editing will be constant and fit the speed of the song. The contrast of colours in my video will also represent the good and bad memories of the couple. I think my video will also keep the audience interested throughout.

Music Video Ideas

I have brainstormed 3 different ideas that I could possibly do for my music video for the song 'The way I loved you' by Taylor Swift. I will now go on to do further brainstorms on each idea as this brainstorm only briefly shows what I could do.

Moodboard

Here I have made a moodboard showing my chosen artist through images and also showing images to do with my chosen song. These images are things such as the roller coaster and the clock. I have also written a few of the songs lyrics on my moodboard.
