Looking at Taylor Swift videos for ideas

Taylor Swift official music video Mine

Looking through this music video I think the aspects of the video are good. There is a clear understanding of what is going on using scenes of past and present. I feel I could use similar ideas in my music video as the song also has scenes of past and present. I also like the idea of the photos hanging down and her looking at them while lip syncing, I could use a similar idea such as this maybe using the green screen.

I like the concept of this video showing both shots of girl and boy. I could using aspects of this within my music video as the lyrics will represent this. I also like the aspects of lip syncing shown.

Reshooting Music Video

Due to getting feedback from an audience about my music video, I have now decided to reshoot my music video. I feel this is a good idea as I will now be able to get different footage that I feel I will be able to use. Also due to circumstances out of my control I have decided to recast one of my actors, this being my main character Chloe. This is due to her not be as reliable as before because of personal issues that I can not control. I feel the new person I will recast will be someone who can already sing, so the aspects of my lip syncing will work better and will look more professional. I will then also look into changing the inside cover of my cd digipak and also changing my music advertisement.

I will now look into recasting my main character, asking a few of the drama students if they would be willing to take part. I think a drama student or perfoming arts student would be beneficial for my video as I would like to include aspects of performance and illustration. This would then also make my video look more professional.

New Ideas For Music Video

After recieving feedback from an audience I have now decided to consider new ideas for my music video. After reading through the lyrics throughly I know understand the meaning to the song and know how I can make changes to my video. As the lyrics have scenes of present and past tense I have decided to show this is my video, the scenes that are present in black and white showing that the artist is unhappy and the past scenes in colour showing the artist as happy. This will show the contrast of the two. I have gone through the lyrics and highlighted what is present tense and what is past tense, this gives me a better understanding of the song. I have then drawn up a table of ideas, the table is split into two halfs (present & past). I feel I now have a range of new ideas to work with and will now arrange with my actors to film my new scenes to see if they work well with the song.

Research into ways of putting lyrics on the screen

There are different ways in which I could recreate lyrics to use in my video, instead of just writing them on paper there are other ways in which I could film lyrics. These are the four ways I have chosen that I could use:

  • Alphabet puzzle pieces

  • Alphabet building blocks

  • Alphabet scrabble letters

  • Alphabet fridge magnets

When using either of these I have decided I will use certian words from a lyric instead of a whole sentence, this will make each word stand out in the song. For example, the lyric 'he's charming and endering and im comfortable' I could just show the three main words 'charming' 'endering' and 'comfortable'.

Feedback of Music Video

As I have now began to edit together my footage I have filmed for my music video, I have decided to get some feedback from a small audience to see what they think. From this feedback many members of my audience said similar things, like the aspects of my lip syncing being too static and I could think of ways to change the way my video starts. I have now taken this into a count and have decided that I want to get more footage that I could use for the beginning of my video. The way I will do this is to get footage together of my male character to represent the lyrics 'he is sensible and so incredible and all my single friends are jealous'. I will also get footage of the couple together to use at the beginning of the video where this is no singing. However, I will still use some parts of the editing I have done as I think it works well.

Creating Music Advertisement

Stage 1- Cutting image onto blank file, then using the lasso tool and rubber tool to cut out the background.

Stage 2- Using the stamp effect on my added image and also creating a pink background to make the background stand out. The stamp effect then also gave me the option to choose a colour so I decided to use a lighter colour of pink so yo could still see the image on the brightly coloured background.

Stage 3- Adding my chosen music channels logo 'Smash Hits'.

Stage 4- Adding image of the front cover of my digipak to promote the new album.

Stage 5- Adding artists name.

Stage 6- Adding more text 'Brand New Album'.

Stage 7- Changing text colour and adding album title 'Fearless'.

Stage 8- Adding more text 'Out Now!'

Stage 9- Adding star ratings from newspapers and magazines.

Stage 10- Changing the background to a grainy effect to make it look like an older piece of paper.

Stage 11- Making the digipak image bigger and moving the smash hits logo.

Stage 12- Adding taylor swifts official website link, 'www.taylorswift.com'.

Stage 13- Adding record label logo and magazine logo. Also changing colour of text and moving image of digipak and star ratings.

Stage 14- Adding star ratings.

Stage 15- Changing colour of artist and album title to purple, to stand out from the pink.

Needing more footage

From beginning to edit together my music video I have now realised that I will be needing more footage. This footage will be used for the end chorus of my video, I want to do this chorus different to the other two as if I keep it the same the whole way through my video may become a bit boring and predictable. So for the end I have decided to film my character just lip syncing the chorus as it is sung from her point of view anyway, I will still then use the text message appearing on a mobile phone as the end lyric 'and thats the way I loved you'. I have now already arranged with my character that we will film these shots on Monday the 9th after school at an inside location.

Editing

As I have been editing together some of my footage, I have now began to experiment with effects on some of my scenes to see what the effect looks like. I began experimenting with my chorus scenes as I want these to have they effect of a memory or a flashback. This is why I have chosen to use the effect of black and white. I think this effect works well and shows the shots as a memory or a flashback, however after editing more I will use the effects near the end to finalise my video.

I have then gone on to edit together my lip syncing, I didnt struggle with this as much as I thought I would as I already did some practice lip syncing videos before hand so I knew how to edit them together. I dont have as much lip syncing in my video so I find this easy to edit when I do have lip syncing shots.

As the chorus throughout my music video is the same I want the shots to be exactly the same so it is consistent. So I copied and pasted the shots that I wanted to the next chorus so the timing would be where I needed it to be.

I have now editing together some shots to use for my end verse, this includes one of the argument scenes when the music is playing before the verse starts and then lip syncing while tearing up a photograph. I think this works well with the song however I think I may need to re-film the lip syncing again.
